Haberman Fabrics at the American Sewing Expo in Novi

This past weekend Haberman Fabrics participated at the American Sewing Expo that took place at the Rock Financial Center in Novi, Michigan! The Expo educated, inspired, and entertained thousands of sewers with shopping, classes, fashion shows, contests, and exhibits.

At the Expo, we featured a miniature version of our store in Royal Oak, bringing as many unique, stylish, and designer fabrics as we could fit in the space provided. Needless to say, our booth was packed.

This didn't stop our customers though! Sewers from near and far packed the booth, delighted to find inspiration, great fabrics and values for their new projects.

Local sewing pattern designer builds booming business!

Calvin College Graduate Designs Classic Clothing for Children with a Completely Contemporary Feel.

Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan, was named as one of America's Best Colleges for 2010, but that is not it's only claim to fame so far this year.

Graduates Liesl Bockheim Gibson '91 and Todd Gibson '91 started a small business out of their Manhattan apartment so that Liesl could stay home with their new baby.

Three years later they would laugh out loud remembering that plan. This past March Todd quit his Wall Street job to help run the company!

Their business, 'Oliver + s' , began because while an at-home mom, Gibson began sewing clothes for her daughter. However, the clothing patterns she found in stores left her unsatisified. So, she began creating and sewing her own designs.

As people began to stop her on the streets and ask her where she had purchased her daughter's dresses she was spurred to research the market. She found there wasn't anything on the market like her patterns and there was a resurgent interest in sewing among mothers with young children.
So began their booming business!

Haberman Fabrics is proud to carry the entire line of Oliver + s patterns:
